The Maharaja of Keshargarh is known to have fought valiantly against the British rule and looted the treasury of Purulia. Rakab forest was used as a hunting ground in Kashipur and it is known as the forest of 16 crosses.

The Maharaja was hanged here, the fort is still in death, a brave witness to the rich past of the district.
